The Dream Job of a Gaming Content Creator?

What is the dream job of every gaming content creator? It’s to be a full-time creator with no worries.

Sharing your passion with an audience and building a community around what you love the most is simply the best feeling in the world.
Everything in front of the camera or on the mic will seem picture perfect. Everything is always positive. The reality is simply different.

Content Creation Burnout

Most content creators, and especially streamers and YouTubers, have a gut feeling that burnout is always lurking in plain sight.

That can definitely take a toll on both physical and mental health. Balancing between always having to be present online and always active and taking care of yourself is not the smallest task.

The pressure to always be on, performing and growing to greater heights with bigger communities, larger fandoms, and more income, is always a point on the horizon.

In 2024, a lot of YouTubers who have suffered from burnout, have chosen to depart because it is no longer profitable or their motivation has gone.

So in this article, we’re going to dive in on physical and mental health and why they are essential for content creators. We will discuss how to maintain energy as time goes by.

Let’s face it. Burnout is one of the biggest challenges on this planet in every single human being, thus YouTubers are no exception. The bigger one gets, the more pressure to meet the constant demand of fresh content.

If you ever watched gaming content on any platform, try to realise the effort that goes into it.

The Workload of a Content Creator

Have you ever thought about the amount of time and work that goes into a single video or stream?

Based on the style of the creator, many hours of gameplay, recording, editing, commentary, writing scripts and material are needed. All to make sure that there’s such a lot of pressure put on these creators just for the sake of one video.

Add the pressure of maintaining social media accounts, monitoring analytics for what’s hot and trending, and editing of a single video. If you’re working with effects, music, and lighting, it takes up even more time.

A full-time content creator works the same as a regular job, if not more. Many will say that it’s an “easy job.” The reality is far from an “easy job” when being a content creator full-time.

Pressured Into Creating Beyond Exhaustion

The challenges I described earlier are a major cumulative trigger for burnout. Many don’t take a break because they think that it will hurt their growth or engagement with their communities. In fact, that’s the worst answer to it. Pushing through exhaustion leads to even less creativity and enthusiasm, which is vital for keeping your audience.

In the end it will just make you wonder: “Why am I doing this, and why don’t I quit?”

Human attention spans are getting shorter by the day. As a content creator, this means that you have to grab the attention of viewers within just a matter of seconds. Commenting on more established platforms like YouTube is almost non-existent anymore for small creators.

With positive commenting gone, this means the amount of negative criticism is ever more present.

Many creators don’t know how to deal with this amount of negative feedback. Especially with gaming, emotions run high, and the comments can be quite vile.

Setting boundaries or not even reading comments is crucial for your mental health.

Which Lifestyle Helps Creators?

Let’s take a look at the physical health and fitness needed to be a creator.

Gaming and editing requires you to be long hours in front of screens, which often means a lot of time sitting and sedentary lifestyle can lead to issues like back pain, bad posture and reduced energy levels. Also being behind screens that can give you much eye strain, headaches and just overall fatigue.

You need to get in the right frame of mind and focus on what you do when you are a content creator. It is also easy to skip meals, eat at irregular times or work late into the night. Irregular sleeping patterns also decimates your cognitive function during the day.

So what can content creators do for their mental and physical health? Let’s dive into it!

Mental Health

When it comes to mental health, just make sure to set boundaries between work and personal time. Make sure to use your calendar, an agenda app, or a different method to keep track of time. use specific hours for content creation and stick to them.

If you’re working multiple sessions in a day, make sure to schedule regular breaks and recharge. Take your time away from screens, take a walk, take a yoga class, do anything that will help you restore mentally.

Make sure to keep a healthy balance between the positive and the negative. If something works out, celebrate it. Make sure to be proud of what you do and even if it’s just small steps. Even if as much as gaining a subscriber or a positive comment.

Use a negative and take the good feedback out of it. If there’s little to no feedback, then make sure to do the right thing. If it’s not hurtful, keep it there. That is what people can do and that’s fine.

However, if it does use swear words or it’s very personal and it comes across as an attack, make sure to delete the comment. There’s no harm in doing so. Make sure to keep it nice and balanced.

Physical Health

What can you do physically for your body when you are a content creator?

Make sure to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. If the sun is out, make sure to go out for a nice walk. Make sure to go out and take in that vitamin D.

On cloudy or rainy days, do a quick workout at home with a fitness app. Stretch every hour. Stand up and take a drink break. Use those extra steps! If you have one, use a standing desk. Then you can switch every hour in between standing and sitting.

Make sure that you eat balanced. Get a good breakfast, eat enough fruits and veggies. Make sure to cook for yourself instead of going for the fast foods every day as they will lead to energy crashes.

Do you have a regular sleeping patterns? Make sure to keep up with that and always aspire to have in between six to eight hours of sleep per night. The best way of getting creative is if your mind is at ease, feeling well and rested. Because of that, your mind will also be able to process negative critiques or setbacks easier.

What should you do if you are facing have a hard time, though?

Make sure to use mindful practises, which could be anything from meditation, writing down your feelings or deep breathing sessions to reduce stress and improve energy levels. Only five minutes a day will make a noticeable difference in every single day you are content creating.

If needed take an extended break from creation and let your fans know. The truth that things are not well, is always better than a sudden disappearance.

There’s no need to explain any further. Just inform your audience that you will be back soon!

Feel The Passion (Again)!

What matters most for any content creator on YouTube, is to remember what you started this for. No one starts out on this journey, with the objective of becoming the biggest of all time. If you are a gaming YouTuber, remember why you are doing it. It’s for the love that you have for gaming and to entertain people. Don’t feel pressured to create content that only resonates with the biggest mainstream audience.

Connect or reconnect with your passion!

If you miss out on an upload or a trend because it compromises your health, they will understand. By ‘they’, I mean your fans. Even if it’s just one fan, they will wait. Quality is always the most important factor.
Stop chasing those big amount of views or subscribers. The most important thing remains to engage with the viewers who genuinely enjoy your content.

As a former full-time streamer and now part time content creator with a dream, I can say confidently that passion is the most important thing when it comes to content creation. I have had to endure burnout multiple times. The first thing you will drop is content creation. It is also the last thing that will come back. If you do fall into burnout, take care of yourself, your personal health, and people you love most. That is the priority of that moment. Never feel obliged to put your fans first.

Conclusion: Put Yourself In First Position!

In conclusion, remember that the best way to stay on top of things is to take care of yourself first. When you are strong, steady and stable, that is when the best form of you will display itself in your content.
