Top 10 Most Annoying Characters in Suikoden II

Suikoden II is full of unforgettable characters from heroes to villains to tragic figures.
But not every character is someone you actually enjoy dealing with. Some get on your nerves. Others have weird behaviour and a few make you wonder how much patience the game expects you to have.
So I’m counting down my top 10 most annoying characters in Suikoden II.
And to be clear, we’re not talking about the most evil characters or simply the enemies. We’re talking about the characters who genuinely annoy me when I’m playing the game. Some of these choices might be controversial, and if you agree or disagree, let me know in the comments.
So, which character takes the number one spot? Let’s find out.
At number 10, it’s Nanami. Now, I understand that she cares about Riou and want to protect him, and after everything they’ve been through, that’s completely understandable, but she takes it a little too far sometimes.
She constantly worries about him, questions his decisions, and insists on getting involved in his adventures. I know she’s supposed to be the more energetic and protective sibling, but there are moments when I just want her to let him make his own choices.
I also find it frustrating when the game forces her into my party. I don’t hate Nanami, and I understand her role in the story, but her personality can get on my nerves. So, after everything that has unfolded at Matilda and the events there, I’m just happy that she’s out of the procedural future of the game that remains, which is not a whole lot.
But I’m just happy that I don’t have to take her all the way to the end against the beast rune, waiting for the unite attack that they have and and an army going, “Oh, let me eat a lot of food while I’m just battling this big ass beast.”
That wouldn’t sit right with me. So, Nanami number 10.
Number nine is Millie, a young girl whose world practically revolves around their pet Bonaparte. Now, there’s nothing wrong with loving your pets. Anyone who has ever had an animal they care about can understand the attachment, but
Millie’s obsession with Bonaparte can become a little tiresome, especially when a personal problems become the focus of her interactions. I know she’s meant to be a bit quirky and lovable character. Some players will probably find her adorable or use her as a mid-range mage.
Unfortunately, I don’t have that reaction. Compare it with the bigger personalities and dramatic stories in Suikoden II.
Millie sometimes feels like a character whose defining trait gets repeated a little too often. She’s not terrible, but she certainly isn’t one of my favorites and especially when it comes to the dreading attack that Bonaparte has against your party in that battle. Number nine, Millie.
At number eight, we have Annallee, the traveling singer.
Now, I actually think the idea behind Annallee is interesting. A musician traveling the world and eventually finding a place amongst the stars of destiny sounds like a perfectly good addition to the story.
The problem is that her recruitment scene is rather awkward and even busted in the originals.
You’re introduced to a character who singing is supposed to be important, but the presentation doesn’t exactly make the strongest impression. And if you’re very unlucky, you get around a minute of silence instead of the actual audio. It’s one of those moments where I find myself wondering whether the scene could have been handled better.
I don’t necessarily find Annallee herself unbearable. It’s more that her introduction and the way her musical talent is presented left me wanting something way more memorable.
Coming in hot at number seven is Zamza.
And here’s where the territory starts to get really annoying. A pretty aggressive personality and certainly not the kind of character who quietly blends into the background.
He can be confrontational, boastful, and rather difficult to warm up to. I understand that Suikoden has plenty of characters with strong personalities.
That’s part of what makes it cast so memorable, but there’s a difference between a character being entertainingly confident and a character simply getting on your nerves.
For me, Zamza falls a little too close to the second category. He has a place in the game, and I can appreciate that he’s not meant to be everyone’s favorite.
Still, whenever I think about characters I’d happily spend less time dealing with, Zamza is one of the first names that comes to mind.
At number six, we have Chaco, the young boy from the winged horde of Two River. And honestly, Chaco is exactly the kind of character who can make you want to reach through the screen. His cheeky attitude is one thing, but stealing Riou’s money is another.
It’s difficult to appreciate someone’s playful personality when they’ve just helped themselves to your hard-earned potch and acts as though it is no big deal.
I know he’s a young kid and his circumstances help explain why he behaves the way he does. That doesn’t mean I have to enjoy dealing with him.
Chaco is memorable. I’ll give him that. But there’s a fine line between being a mischievous kid and irritating. and he crosses that line more often than not.
We’re halfway through the list and we have Nina and her enormous crush on Flik.
Now, crushes are perfectly normal. We’ve all seen characters fall in love and sweet and has plenty of relationships and personal stories woven into its world. But Nina takes her enthusiasm for Flik to another level, let’s say stalking. Her persistent attention, dramatic reactions, and determination to get closer to him can become exhausting.
Flik clearly isn’t always comfortable with the attention, yet Nina continues pursuing him with an enthusiasm that never seems to run out.
I understand that her behaviour is intended to provide some comic relief, and I’m sure plenty of players find those interactions funny.
Personally though, I sometimes wish the game would give us a little less of Nina chasing Flik and a little more of her own character.
At number four, we enter enemy territory with Rowd, one of the Highland officers who makes life difficult for Riou and Jowy right from the get-go.
What irritates me about him is his attitude towards people under his authority. He represents the kind of officer who seems far more interested in exercising power than in treating others fairly.
His actions during the opening of the game helps set the tone for the conflict that follows. He’s not the biggest or most powerful villain in Suikoden II, but his behavior makes him an easy character to dislike, and that is precisely why he earns a place on this list.
I don’t need every annoying character be to be a major antagonist or protagonist. Sometimes a smaller character who abuses his position and makes life miserable for everyone around him is more than enough.
It’s time for the top three and taking a bronze medal is Gorudo, also known as Gordeau, the leader of the Matilda Knights.
What makes him so frustrating is the way he prioritizes his own interests and position over the people who need help. While the war threatens the surrounding territories, he remains determined to protect his own power and the position of Matilda.
His decisions make him difficult to respect, particularly when you consider the consequences for the ordinary people caught up in the conflict, like the refugees that are slain by Luca and Jowy.
Now, I know Gorudo is supposed to be an antagonist, and the game clearly wants us to question his leadership, but that doesn’t make him any less irritated and deal with ever since we met him in Muse.
He represents the kind of leader who talks about duty and authority while failing to live up to the responsibilities that come with them.
At number two, just missing out on the top spot is Jess, amember of Muse’s city council. He frustrates me because of his judgment and the way he handles responsibility.
He’s a character who should be helping protect his city. Yet, his decisions, accusations, and judgments make an already difficult situation even worse.
His behaviour during the Muse storyline is particularly difficult to sympathize with. Rather than making things easier for Riou and Jowy, he contributes to the mistrust surrounding them. I understand that the situation turned complicated and the characters don’t always have the full picture, but Jess still manages to make himself incredibly frustrating and annoying.
For me, he’s a perfect example of a character who isn’t the strongest villain or the most dangerous person in the game or the most loyal ally. It’s his actions that make you wish someone would finally tell him to shut up. Or stop making things worse for himself and the world around him.
We need less Jess.
The dishonourable mention of this video goes to Freed and his wife Yoshino. Mostly to Freed, because he is forced onto your party as soon as you hit South Window and try to defeat Neclord.
He asks really stupid straightforward questions. You are just mindboggled and you want to scream the answers through the screen.
So, we got a top nine and the dishonourable mention. Let’s go to the gold medal. The top spot of this top 10 most annoying characters.
And finally at number one, the gold medal, Pilika.
Now before anyone gets upset, I understand that she’s a child who experiences some major trauma.
Her story is tragic and her suffering is an important part of the emotional weight, but this list is about characters that annoy me and she takes the top spot.
Her early scenes involve a lot of crying and distress. And while I understand why she behaves that way, those moments can become difficult for me to sit through.
The game repeatedly puts her suffering at the centre of the story. And I sometimes find myself getting frustrated with the way those scenes unfold. That doesn’t mean I blame Pilika for what has happened to her. She’s a victim of the war, not the cause of it.
But still, when I think about the characters who frustrate me most while playing the game, Pilika is the one who comes to mind first.
I always skip the dialogue when Pilika is involved. And that is why she takes number one in my top 10 most annoying Suikoden characters.
So, that’s my personal top 10 most annoying characters in Suikoden II.
