SUIKODEN THEORIES: ARE JILLIA BLIGHT & QUEEN THE SAME PERSON?3 min read

Introduction: Why Does This Theory Exist?

Today we’re tackling one of the oldest Suikoden fan theories: Jillia Blight from Suikoden II and Queen from Suikoden III are the same person!

Once investigated by SuikoX, we elaborate more on this theory with the now known supplemental content published by Konami, and developer interviews.

Both noble-born and of the same age, Jillia disappears into Harmonia after the Highland conflict. Queen is a sword-wielding mercenary in Harmonia, working for Geddoe’s squad.

Sounds like a matching person to the most, right?

Let’s break down where this theory comes from, and see if the evidence holds.

PART 1: THE ORIGIN OF THE THEORY

Fans didn’t pull this out of nowhere.

Here’s the “evidence” they gathered throughout time:

  • Jillia and Queen were both born in SY 445.

  • Jillia vanishes from the series after Suikoden II.

  • Queen works under Harmonian command in Suikoden III.

  • Jillia was Queen of Highland. Queen’s codename is… well… Queen.

  • Both have noble roots.

You can see why people started connecting the dots.

But now we need to see what the official canon says, based on official material that’s provded in novelization, supplemental material and the games.

PART 2: WHAT THE GAMES TELL US

Jillia Blight

  • She is the younger sister of Luca Blight.

  • Length: Estimated between 160cm-165cm

  • She becomes the Queen of Highland by marriage to Jowy Atreides, after father Agares has been murdered and Luca has been defeated by the New State Army.

  • After the war, she retires and leaves to Harmonia to raise Pilika with a new secretive identity.

  • She is born in SY 445 in Highland’s capital, L’Renouille.

Queen

  • Member of Geddoe’s unit in Suikoden III, under Harmonian command.

  • Born SY 445.

  • Length: 173cm (5″8′)

  • Origin: The Kingdom of Sanady, conquered by Harmonia before her birth.

  • Born into Sanadian nobility.

They are the same ages, but have vastly different origins.

PART 3: THEORY VS. CANON

Some fans claim Queen could be a cover identity in itself.
Maybe Jillia took a new name.
Maybe her mother was Sanadian.
Maybe Harmonia erased her past.

But here’s the reality:
There’s no official evidence. Not in the games. Not in guidebooks. Not in interviews with the developers.

Queen never mentions Highland anywhere.
Jillia never appears again after Suikoden II is completed.
No developer has hinted at a connection between the two in any relation.

Even major sites on Suikoden like Suikosource or Gensopedia call this pure speculation.

PART 4: WHERE IT FALLS APART

  • Queen explicitly says she’s from Sanady. That’s a direct contradiction of Jillia’s Highland birth, L’Renouille.

  • Personality clash: Jillia is soft-spoken and refined. Queen is sharp-tongued and battle-hardened. She doesn’t hesitate to lash out whenever she feels it’s appropriate.

  • No in-game characters react as if Queen has a secret royal past. Not Geddoe, not Jacques, not Kidd. When the one closest to her in her recent past don’t mention it, then most of the times there’s nothing to seek beneath the surface.

Having the same age isn’t enough to override the canon in this case.

CONCLUSION

Jillia Blight and Queen are not the same person iw the only logical conclusion based on what we have learned.

Canon treats them as separate characters. The theory is fun, but it doesn’t hold up knowing that there’s no evidence to support it.

Suikoden is full of mysteries and gaps in the lore. This isn’t one of these mysteries though that needs clearance.

    1. SuikoX indeed once investigated this theory some fifteen to twenty years ago.

In the meantime more supplemental content has come out, including interviews with developers of these original games.

Therefore this article expands beyond what SuikoX once did!

Thank you for the comment, and I’ve added it into the article!
