CHAPTER 28 – TILL DEATH WON’T HAPPEN7 min read

Jowlani comes back to the inn and immediately calls a meeting with our other allies.

Startled, Zayden asks: “Can you tell me what is going on? You seem very distraught. Think of your breathing and explain the situation.”

Jowlani then starts informing what happened with Caelira.

“I went over there trying to explain what went down at Zomerhoven on behalf of all of us. She said that she was very disappointed with the fall of the city, but that she expected it. She said that Lord Nelson was just a…. basically a coward and ran. After that, she asked me to sit down with her so she could inform me about my family. She told me that my family has always been a part of the magician’s faction. They were sent to the border to spy on Altgrön, but got betrayed by someone.”

Adnap then intervenes. “Is that what you called this meeting for? Doesn’t sound too serious, really. Or maybe I’m just too fast to speak because I’m very tired. My apologies sir Jowlani, continue.”

“If that was just it, I would have gladly called it a day. Her tone shifted from nonchalant to informative, but then something really bizarre happened. She told me that I would be a great leader for this country. And I would do so by leading another country. Altgrön.

Then she proceeded to come sit closer next to me. She put her hand on my thigh and I felt very uncomfortable. She told me I would have to love her to get that position. To become untouchable and undefeatable. I shook up out of my seat and told her absolutely not.

I left as fast as I could because I wanted to inform you guys of the situation. She seems mad jealous and I’m afraid somebody’s going to get hurt in our team. I most of all fear for you Zayden. Because of that, I need you to be guarded. Luke and Kelly, can you watch over Zayden? You’re the most gifted swinging an axe and using magic to protect him.”

Luke and Kelly nod, and they know what their purpose is for the next couple of days.

After sharing this news, they all tried to gather their thoughts. Most of all, the question that hangs above their heads is whether they will continue with this allyship.
Or to go on their own paths to defend the nation and seeking out new allies of their own.

Then suddenly the door of the inn is swung wide open. As soon as our allies see who is stepping in, they all gather their weapons.

It’s Remyra, the outcasted brother of Sovereign Caelira. He immediately calls out to Jowlani, but in a modest tone.

“Jowlani, Zayden and allies. Please sheathe your weapons. I have urgent news to share and I come in peace. Dear guests of the inn, please leave immediately for this news is secretive.”

The guests of the Inn and Tavern do leave. Some of them look afraid, but they know that this is the best course of action. After the inn is empty, Remyra starts walking towards them and holds up a squared item.

“This is what they call audiotape. I have used this during your encounter with the traitor of our nation. I secretly stood in the room where no one could see me. I have foreseen everything that she planned even after you left. Please listen carefully to this and then judge accordingly.”

Remyra plays the tape where the sovereign orders the assassin to follow Jowlani.

“My dear boy, we have to do something. Probably they are already on their way here. There is no use in hiding, but we can block the alternate exits.”

Adnap joins in on Serena: “We have to face whoever is coming now head on. Sir Remyra, which side are you on?”

Remyra looks straight towards Jowlani and Zayden.

“My sister has framed me more than once. Ousted me from our family and from the heritage that belongs to me. I have picked my side. I will stand with you and make sure that we overthrow Caelira, once and for all. She needs not to be killed. She needs to be accused and trialled accordingly for her crimes.

Thanks to this audio taping, there’s no denying what she did. Once we get out of here safely, we will play this throughout all of our streets. Our citizens, our allies, and the other leaders will know exactly what they’re dealing with. A liar, a traitor. And a jealous woman, above all.

There is only one love affair in this country that brings leadership. That is the one between you two guys. Let’s make our first stand here and then see where it leads us.”

All the allies gather, including the inn owner and barricade all the alternate exits, even to the cellar. The front door is the only thing that remains locked, but can be forced.

Serena and the inn owner are discouraged to join the fight and asked to lock themselves in the upper room, only accessible with multiple keys.

Adnap, Luke, Kelly, Jowlani, Zayden, Marques, and Remyra remain in the tavern.

In the corner of one of the windows a red glowing light can be witnessed. It becomes brighter and brighter and brighter. A loud bang is heard on the front door. It slams open as fire is spewing in and then fades.

A tall person stands in front of the door. Dressed in a red velvet cloak, hooded. Remyra knows exactly who it is.

“There is the man that has been haunting me for quite some time. Before they get to you, it’s time to settle the score. The only way he can be defeated is really easy. Leave me to it, but be my backup.”

Remyra steps forward and speaks to the cloaked individual.

“It’s about damn time, Francis. What took you so long? These gullible people believe me anyway. Ready to draw some blood?”

He walks to Francis and turns around. When Francis can’t see it, he winks to our allies.

“Who would have thought that some mere children could think they could overthrow the sovereign? I distanced myself from the throne ever since I was a young boy. I have seen the stuff rich people do. What intended nobility does to their people. What vicious choices they make. Though there is one that I make sometimes. Decisions that sting, that hurt. One thing is for certain. I will always put my country first.”

Remyra turns around to Francis and blasts him with what seems like an automated shotgun. He keeps pulling the trigger as he fires into Francis’ belly, legs, arms and finally, his head.

Francis falls over with guts all over the floor, walls and ceiling of the tavern.

“This guy is one of the most loyal subjects of my sister. He would do anything for her. He’s just like all those other stupid lovers who thought they could close to her. She only lusts for power. I couldn’t let this madman assassinate someone that vows to better his own country for the sake of many people. Especially since I’ve witnessed you two in action.

Now that this is over and with the material we have, it’s time to crash the party at the national government. I have a great plan to make sure they hear what our dear sovereign is doing at the same time all people of Netralia will hear it. Are you ready?”

Zayden steps forward hand-in-hand with Jowlani and reaches out his left hand to Remyra. “Thank you for all you’ve done so far. I did not know what to believe, but the proof is there. Let’s make both our nations a better place.”

Remyra accepts and shakes his hand. “Time to plan and to go. It won’t be long before she notices. Though I’m well prepared. Let’s sit down, and call your aunt for me Jowlani. She’s critical to the plan. But first, let’s clean up this mess so it won’t be too suspicious.”

Thus all the allies start scraping and cleaning body parts of the floor first.
Not the nicest task, but certainly an essential one.

Everybody wonders what Remyra’s plans are.

Though as a seller of goods and great marketeer, Adnap might already foresee a medium that will aid their plans.

We’re just one night away from overthrowing the Sovereign. Time to let the reign of chaos and distractions end.
